What is your message?

December 27, 2007

We all are constantly sending out messages, whether by word or by body language.  Are you sending out the right messages? Since we do have control over our thoughts we have that advantage to change our messages at any time.  Now just think about this, we can smile, think happy thoughts, change our biophysical chemistry and that is what we broadcast to others.

Some people have difficulties when they are in a poor state of mind. They can not seem to put themselves in the proper frame of mind. There is something to the statement of turning that frown upside down. A smile communicates many things, that one is happy, loving and another being confident. Laughter always helps and sometimes I do look for a joke or two to break my mood. I find that smiling is always helpful it puts me in a position of advantage.

There is a statement which goes like this “Production is the basis of Morale.” That statement is true, in that, if your production is leading you towards that which you want, you morale is high. Think about that, when you are in the trenches working on a project, you want a certain outcome or result, what happens? I know with myself I am focused, happy, confident, feeling very powerful. Yet if your production is aimless, or you have no outcome in mind, what occurs is that you tend to lose your enthusiasm for the project.

Bob Proctor once said “there were these stock brokers who were excited because they were making money, but the truth is they were making money because they were excited.” This is definitely a true statement. These past few weeks I have been excited about taking part in an opportunity, and because I got excited, I started to make money.  But as soon as any doubt or grim thought comes in then the mood shifts and nothing happens.

We can neutralize our enthusiasm by just thinking the opposite “The What If” scenario, which will steal your power. Keeping in that state of mind to produce income, is a fine line. It is like you are placing yourself on a fence, lean to one direction and there you will fall, lean to other and there you are. Funny thing about our choices, even this example makes me laugh, but it is so true, because we can be very perplexed. Our own thoughts can betray us. Is this the message you want to send? If our thoughts can betray us so quickly, what is the tool that we can use to offset these feelings? It is as simple as a smile, a laugh or a thought of love. Think of a little kitty in your hands, you whole mood just changes.

What we focus on does expand. Let us take a look at what we are focusing on. This in itself sends out that message to the material world and the universe. We are so bent on having evidence placed in our view that sometimes we forget the right sequence in which things manifest in our lives. To continue to harp on not seeing results only reinforces the same behavior that brings about those results we are not seeing. This may not be stated eloquently but it is true none the less.

You know sometimes things just don’t work out the way you would like them to. The search for your answer is right there within you. But, when the same thing happens consistently, you don’t ask for help. You feel that if you did it would be a sign of weakness. If I have learned anything in my entire life, I have learned that asking for help brings about the solutions that you need to hear. They may not be what you want to hear, but you need to hear them anyway. You want to have a great year, but you go it alone and bam your right back to where you started. You can change that, but you fear that if you do others will take advantage. I have been their and done that. The greatest results I had ever gotten came from a mentor or from something that I was accountable for.

If you want to send out a great message and you want to be effective, by all means hire a life coach or a great friend that will support you and keep you accountable. You will find that your message with some help will shift toward what you want, faster and with greater impact, then going it alone.

Think happy and prosperous thoughts, visualize in every project, action or activity reaping the rewards from focused attention that produces the outcomes that you are looking for. Take charge of your own “happiness makeover” and that is my message!

Redefining Retirement – Looking Down The Rabbit Hole

December 17, 2007

We know that there is going to be a huge drawdown of pensions, retirement benefits, 401Ks and IRAs over the next eight years. Will the stock market hold up? That is a good question. Predictably, the stock market will go into a downturn for many years. This will start to require some response from Wall Street if they want to manage it.

This would dictate that new financial instruments will have to be created in order to support and leverage such a turn down. The turndown will start to put the pressure on the financial brokerage community to bring forth some measure of financial security. When the “Baby Boomers” start to wake up to the fact that there retirement is being redefined by government, it will send some people running and screaming bloody murder.

Action on the social security system must be taken over the next few years. Ignoring this problem or neglecting the on coming drawdown, would be disastrous. Will the government raise the age of retirement? I believe so as they will have no other options that will work to delay the draw down of retirement funds. It isn’t just the government; Wall Street is going to have to take action as well.  Banks are going to go crazy as the income flow from savings accounts will also start to diminish.

Aside, from all of this what about the little guy? Retirement is not going to be that much of an option, with certain exceptions, a large percentage of the retiring community is going to come up real short. Inflation won’t stop, prices will continue to rise, and housing markets will be flat. This period over the next eights years are going to be crucial. Government spending will have to be curtailed much more than any other period. There best investment is in new technologies and emerging markets involving new energy resources such as hybrid cars, alternative fuels, solar energy for homes and businesses.

There is no escape clause here; even the business community will be forced to make adequate changes to there own operations. These commutes to and from work is one place that they can start projects. Most administrative workers have computers at home and are connected to the net. The structure of having middle management sitting in supervision within a department will have to go network. It will eventually be the case where the worker is at home communicating to the main branch or hub for the company that they work for or with.

There is ample opportunity to start making these changes now. Any forward looking business will also see the merits of this type of structure. Of course this brings about other factors to consider, such as Workers’ Compensation Insurance. Look at a large company such as Walt Disney; since they wouldn’t have that many people in those cubicles, they could easily trim down the amount of buildings they need to occupy.

This would also encourage employees to work with that company longer, since they will still receive their benefits and pay, and save the commute. This inadvertently, saves energy for the commuter and the company. Let us not forget what has been on the table all year long, that is, the green house gases, which will also improve by just having people work out of their apartments or homes. I don’t know about you but at age 70 I don’t believe I would want to go through all the traffic and bottlenecks to get to work. There could be arrangements made whereby the worker comes in once or twice a week for meetings or for filing important papers. Companies right now can easily set up secured intranet accounts or VPNs.

Training and Education is very important especially if one is going to phase over to this type of plan. Running software, being security conscious, and backing up what one is processing are going to be key skills to have when employing such as strategy. This will eventually save most companies millions of dollars and they will be able to pay out “retirement” bound workers a bit more to stay on. Maybe one argument is that people would abuse that freedom and not show up to work. If that is the case as Donald Trump says “Your Fired!”

This is a paradigm shift. In order to keep up with all of the demands for energy savings, funding through taxation, avoidance of having too much of the aging population ending up on the streets, action must be taken. We can not continue the same old routines. There is absolutely no reason to avoid any of these issues. Preparation is more than half the battle, implementing solutions now is the answer.

Redefining retirement is simply changing the terrain. One has to adapt to the environment. Receiving a check that won’t even pay your mortgage or rent is leaving one with no choice but to continue to work. There is no fault finding here, we can not blame anyone for anything when it comes to our own financial problems.

Those who want to actually retire are going to have a few options but not many. In most cases, the home based business, will start to see many “Baby Boomers” entering these emerging markets. They will have most of the computer skills necessary or will have to do some training but not much, at least in a technical sense.

As I said before no one escapes this. The auto industry will be forced to spearhead the energy markets if they want to save themselves from bankruptcy. As Americans we need to lead the way, other countries are going to be really hurting, so it is going to be up to us to get this right. We have to set the example. Maybe it hurts to think about our future, maybe I am being a little too passionate about it. The trends don’t lie. We know what is coming so let us get prepared to take the appropriate action. My thought is do it now.

New Year’s Resolutions – How to make them work

December 15, 2007

We are coming to a new year. Traditionally this is a time of family, friends and reflection on the year that has transpired. We assess what we have accomplished and what we want to accomplish over the next year for ourselves and or our families. We look at what we have and what we want to have in or out of our lives. It is a time to form a resolve to kick a habit, to change something about us or to achieve a milestone or benchmark for our betterment.

Much consideration is given to a particular issue. Whether it is to lose weight or make more money, we mull over some idea of what we want to achieve. We set up a strategy and draft some sort of plan and decide this year we will go for it. Then after a few days, weeks or even a month we abandon the whole idea and go right back to where we were. This backsliding is not unusual, nor uncommon. We are resolved even excited to do something that will change our lives for the better, yet we fail, put it on the shelf and maybe next year we will have more strength to accomplish that goal.

One can not live in “Someday aisle.” When you have the potential to achieve anything you want in life and abandon that which you know is a great idea, you are treating yourself with disrespect. That disregard which you would never expect from anyone else, at least anyone close to you, will eat at you slowly over time. If not now, when are you going to do the things that you want to do? You need to get rid of those little monkeys in your head and get to the task at hand.    My experience has taught one thing, that if don’t want it bad enough, you will not make the move to get it. The question remains, “How intensely do you want to change this particular thing?” If your desire is not yours, you will fail. If your desire is based on “it’s a good idea” you will fail. If your desire is unrealistic you will fail. The only way that you will achieve the thing that you want to achieve is because of the outcome or the benefits that outweigh the act on not changing it at all. The idea of achieving or defeating some issue in your life is such that you will do anything to achieve it, now we have something to work with. That burning desire that just lights up everything inside you is what you need to have. An “almost” burning desire won’t do.

The first step, to change is your desire to achieve that goal. Intelligently knowing what you want isn’t enough. You must become emotionally hooked on it as well. Your thoughts and feelings are what determine your actions. If you think about the outcome or benefit and your absent of any feeling for its achievement, you need to start to get excited about that achievement. You see it is the only thing that will start you on the path to success. Get excited!

The next step is defining that goal. You need to define it in words that create the picture in your mind of what it is that you want. For instance, you want to lose weight, this is always a great example. Do you want to lose weight or do you want to see yourself in a more a fit body. So what is the goal here? The goal isn’t working out routinely, that is a task, not a goal. The goal is “I am a toned 150 pounds and my abs are so tight that you can bounce a coin off of them, I am strong, flexible and always energized, people look at me in amazement.” Now this statement is more powerful or thought provoking than just I want to weight so many pounds. Yuk! Then set a date for when this will be achieved.

This should be followed as to why you want to achieve this goal or conquer this issue. Define what your desire represents to you. How will it make you feel? It can not be just good! You must feel “POWERFUL” “IN CONTROL” “ELATED” “FIRED UP” so that the feelings can carry you through your challenges and there will be challenges make no mistake about that. Oh no, you are not going to get away from adversity. That is part and parcel of your preparation to start on this venture or journey.

What we are doing is adjusting your thoughts and feelings. As I had said in the above paragraphs, your thoughts and feelings will determine your actions. Now comes the hardest part, keep your goals in front of you and read them over and over again at least 2-3 times a day to remind you of where you are headed. You want to avoid pitfalls, so make sure before you “do” anything that you have impressed your goal and the reason why, first. People have a tendency to skip this step, don’t. If you do not impress your idea with the proper emotions first, you won’t act on it.

Once you start getting a hold on this, there will be times where you can also start doing it on a dime. So quickly that your body will immediately take action to achieve your objective or goal, it will take practice, but one step at a time. Again you can use this process on anything, just remember step one.

Setting up a support system is a great thing to do. If you want to become wealthy, don’t pay attention to those who are not wealthy. You want to study or hang around those who are wealthy, go to their seminars, read their books, get around winners. Here is the trap as well, if you want to lose weight and everyone around is overweight, don’t talk to them about your goal. They will say that they support you, but consciously or unconsciously they will start to bring you down. You want to lose weight, read body building magazines, read books about body building and there are great Ebooks on the subject from bodybuilders. Hire a personal trainer, heck hire a life coach. Whatever you do stay out of the “complaint and negative support groups.” They may have the same goals as you, but their negative input, such as “that doesn’t work or I tried this or that” will defeat you. They won’t inspire you they will crush your dreams with their drama in life. Read the inspiring stories, the motivational stuff that keeps the fires in you burning at a fever pitch. Forget the trash, don’t read it, don’t write about it, or allow any space in your mind for anything that will disempower you.

You must remember that you are going to move forward, and your paradigm or habits are going to be pushing up against you, trying to re-establish the norm that you are trying to change. That original self image will only be defeated if you take control. That is why it is so important that you have a mentor, a best buddy or a life coach that will help you stay on track. Your mind and your body is going to go into protest mode, it doesn’t want to go away from the familiar. Keeping yourself on track and excited will get you to where you want to go.

Actions are the next and final step for you to take. Remember these are “tasks.” This is not the goal.  These tasks are the things that you choose to do to make progress to your goal. Take on step at a time and don’t try to become what you want in one fail swoop. No Hail Mary actions are necessary to make it. The only leap of faith you need to take is the belief that you are going to achieve your goal no matter what. If you want more wealth than make a wealth plan, more health, make a health plan, more confidence, make a more confidence plan. Then take action daily on the tasks that you need to follow in order to achieve what you want.

One other tip, now this is important, do what is most priority first. It’s that one thing that you truly want to achieve. Maybe you have 3-4 or more goals, don’t get scattered among all the goals. You want to spend your major time on that which you want the most. If your goal is better fitness and you also have wealth goals, which one weighs more for you? If you are in better shape, would it not affect you ability to gain more wealth? While you are executing one goal, you can of course start studying up on another.

Once you have achieved your major goal you will be even more motivated to achieve others. You build success one goal at a time. Then what will happen is that you will be able to handle more than one at a time without getting scattered all over the place.

Rehearse your goal daily, before you get up in the morning, read your goal card, think about how you want your day to turn out. This may be a little difficult at first, but if you do it daily it will start getting easier. Keep yourself excited and bring that excitement to each task. You will arrive at your goal and find that you can achieve anything that you want. Your thoughts, feelings and actions will form your attitude toward your goal, make it monumental!

The Process of Goal Definition

December 7, 2007

One of major factors that become a stumbling block is we generally forget what the goal is. We already posses the ability to be, do and have anything we want.  How do I know this? Well it is very simple. When we want to achieve a goal, we always strive to get it. There are few parameters that surround goal achievement that does not vary, no matter what you do.  You can achieve any goal that you want. I will give you the example of getting a drivers’ license. Remember when you were young and you just turned of age to get a drivers’ license?

One of the things that happened was you got excited. You set the goal to get the license, not for the sake of having one, but for what it represented to you at the time.  Right before I even started my driving lessons, I was excited I could see and feel myself in possession of that license. Now, what was happening was that the license represented freedom, liberty to travel beyond a limited area, also to go where I want to go at any time. Wait you say, you don’t have a car and you have not even started your lessons yet. This is correct reality, my circumstances, resources were not even there. Yet I pushed to get that drivers’ license.

The goal was not to learn how to drive; the goal was to have in my possession the drivers’ license. Why did I want that drivers’ license? It is how it may me feel, pure and simple. Did I have to learn to drive? Of course, I had to go through the process or better yet through certain steps to get to the goal.

The goal was the drivers’ license, the steps were to pass the written test, get the driving lessons, take the driving test and with a pass on all of these, then obtain the official license.  What was the process? It was these steps:

1) Know what you want

2) Get excited about it

3) Know, why you want it

4) Set your mind to it

5) Get on with the work

Here is your bonus this process is already in you. You own it and you can make it work for anything that you want. This is where it gets tricky, today you might want a fit body; tomorrow you want to be a daredevil, the next day you want to run for a government office. That is why we don’t get to our goals or anywhere close.  This does not require any circumstance or resource, you simply focus on what you want and fix your mind to it. You keep yourself excited and remind yourself about what achieving this goal represents to you. The more clarity the more steps you will achieve or go through at a faster pace.   This is why your vision of where you want to arrive is so important. The more clarity the more the desire, the more the desire the more order and movement results in that given direction. Remember that we can not outperform our self image; we can only change how we think about ourselves.

That power to achieve anything we want is already in our possession, we were born with it, we just have to learn how to use it effectively.
